Value Chain Development

The Value Chain Development initiative implemented by Maasai Pastoralist Devote Initiatives (MPDI) focuses on strengthening production, processing, and market linkages to improve income generation in pastoralist communities.

Building on the strong social structure of Community Managed Savings Groups, the initiative helps transform these groups into Saving Producers Groups that can actively participate in local value chains. Members receive training on business management, production planning, quality standards, and market analysis.

The programme focuses on value chains that are locally viable and climate-resilient, including livestock and livestock products such as milk, meat, hides, and skins, as well as crop production and agro-processing activities.

MPDI also facilitates market linkages between producers, traders, and service providers. Through collective marketing and improved business practices, communities are able to increase productivity, strengthen bargaining power, and improve household incomes.
